Today life circled around web design. I had to help a friend completing an assignment for his studies. He needed to write about Dutch web designers, and he didn't know where to find them.
I was happy to help him out properly, so I told him about Spock.com. It allows a quick and easy search for persons or groups of people.
At Spock.com one can not only search by name, but also by email or tag. Searching by tag means that one can search for any listed personal characteristic, such as profession, hobbies and haircolour. Spock.com is an interactive site. After joining, registering is free, you can contribute information, submit your photos, link to other areas of the web, e.g. to blogs, myspace and such. A good choice of tags enables others to find you at the keywords you want to see connected with your name. It's not something a computer generates. No. You make the tags. So when you want to be found by a certain group of people, you have to find and use the common denominator.
My friend was amazed. He expected an elaborate search on internet, and instead of that I went to Spock.com without any doubt. When I typed in web designer netherlands we immediately got the group of people on our screen that are dedicated to web design . We saw quite some familiar faces.
On their pages he was able to read their biography and learn more about their lives. When he said he knew something to add, I was happy to inform him that being a member means that you can add that information without any problem. That's the strength of the system: combining the knowledge of people results in improved search results. It's not about ranks, it's about facts.
Using Spock.com is fun, because it offer features that come in handy for your blog, like the widget with the search results. The name Spock stands for facts and good knowledge.
Like my friend said when he was finished: "This search engine is truly helpful, and it sure has a face and it's own personality"
He used the easy widget to safe his search results.
Maybe it's something for us dollhouse enthousiasts too!
